Privacy policy

In short: you use FlyScout without an account, and we don't set any cookies.

Who we are

FlyScout is responsible for processing the data described on this page:

Not filled in yet: name, address, Chamber of Commerce (KvK) number and email address. These details will follow soon.

What we do (and don't) store

  • No account, no profile. We don't ask for your name, email address or payment details.
  • Recent searches are kept only in your own browser (local storage), so you can run them again quickly. They are not sent to our servers and we don't use them for anything else. Remove them with the “Clear” button or by deleting your browser data.
  • Searches: to find prices we send your search criteria (airports, dates, number of travellers) to our price source (Travelpayouts, the price service of Aviasales). No personal data is included. We keep the results in a cache for a few hours, without knowing who searched for them.
  • IP address: to limit abuse we count how many searches come from an IP address per minute. That counter disappears after one minute.
  • Server logs: like any website, our hosting provider keeps technical logs (such as IP address and requested page) to keep the site secure and working. They are available in our account for one day.

We don't use analytics or advertising networks, and we don't sell data.

Why we may do this

We process your IP address (the counter and the server logs) on the basis of our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR): keeping the site secure and available, and preventing one user from making it unusable for others. Your recent searches stay on your own device; we don't process them.

Who helps us

These parties process data on our behalf, under a data processing agreement:

  • Vercel (United States): hosting and server logs. Vercel is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which allows transfers to the US.
  • Upstash: the cache of search results and the one-minute IP counter, in a data centre in the EU. Upstash is a US company; the European Commission's standard contractual clauses apply.

Going to a booking partner

When you click “View / Book flight”, you go to a booking partner's website: currently Aviasales, through the Travelpayouts partner network. The link contains our partner ID, not any data about you. From then on the partner's privacy policy applies. The partner may set cookies, among other things to remember that you came from FlyScout (30 days, according to Travelpayouts), so that we receive a commission if you book (see About FlyScout).

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct and delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to its use. Since we store almost nothing, there is usually nothing to access. Send questions or requests to our email address (coming soon, see “Who we are”). If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Changes

If anything changes in how we handle data, we will update this page and the date above.
